May I upgrade my OS?

All of our VPS accounts use a shared kernel which will limit your choices when upgrading. You may be able to upgrade several user-land programs (Apache, Perl, PHP , gcc) but you will not be able to perform a complete OS upgrade.

What development languages/tools are included?

All VPS servers come with GCC, python, Perl, and PHP available to compile and run today's most popular opensource applications.

What is a Control Panel and what can it do?

The Control Panel is a web-based interface you can use to administer your domain accounts online. By following the various links in your Control Panel, you can change the contact information for your domain, configure POP accounts, forwards and autoresponders, etc. We offer a choice of 2 control panels in our VPS Hosting Plans, Webmin and Plesk .

What name servers (DNS) do I use?

You are responsible for running your own DNS. This can be accomplised easily via either the control panel.

Which operating systems are available with the VPS plans?

VPSHosting.com.hk's VPS plans are currently available with either Fedora Core 4 or CentOS 4.

Who is InterNIC or HKDNR?

They are an independent organization (formed by government) responsible for controlling domains. The InterNIC is responsible for US domains and HKDNR is responsible for HK domains.

Why do other hosts have large maximum RAM such as 8GB?

Several hosts advertise to have very large burstable/maximum RAM such as 6GB, 8GB, 10GB etc. whereas the guaranteed RAM may only be 256MB. This is usually the maximum amount of RAM available on the server. Therefore it is almost impossible to allocate such a large amount of memory to any individual VPS and thus it is a meaning less number. Even if its true it does not make sence since a major feature of VPSs is that no one VPS can monopolise on the resources of the host system. If a VPS is allowed to allocate almost all the RAM available on the host system then it risks monopolising the host system's resources.

Will my OS count against my disk space?

Yes. Your operating system files will count against your disk allocation. The amount of disk space for your service plan is the total amount of space allocated to your virtual server.
